What is the Rio Scanning Laser?
The Rio Scanning Laser is a technologically advanced laser scanning device for home use. Its main function is to fight against the rate that your body hair grows at, to reduce the volume of hair that grows after you’ve shaved, waxed or trimmed. This technique works successfully on most skin types, with the exception of Afro-Caribbean or black skin complexions. The Rio Scanning Laser uses a safe light-heat system that can be used frequently for long periods.
A recent clinical study at the Japanese Society of Aesthetic Surgery involved 150 participants using the Rio Scanning Laser. 6 treatments were given to 150 participants for 1 - 2 months apart, who were then monitored for 6 months after the last treatment. Results showed that 93% of females and 80% of males who used the Rio Scanning Laser experienced significant hair reduction.
How does the Rio Scanning Laser work?
This hair removal treatment uses a laser to deliver an intense beam of light, which is made up of a single wavelength. Although your skin is more or less transparent to the light in the laser’s wavelength range, your skin’s melanin containing structures will absorb the laser energy.
Your hair follicles have a high concentration of melanin. The light energy absorbed by the melanin pigment heats up your targeted hair follicles. Using a rapid volume of heat, the laser handset destroys the papilla cells, which are responsible for hair growth. When substantial heating is achieved, your follicles become disabled resulting in a permanent reduction in hair growth. This action is completely safe, as the heat energy targets melanin without affecting the surrounding area.
How often can I use this treatment?
Providing your hair follicles or the surrounding area is not red, sore or inflamed, you can safely reapply the treatment after 24 hours. It is recommended that you wait 2-4 weeks between treatments to see which hairs have been shed to identify new re-growth. This way you can see which areas of your body still require hair removal treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
Laser hair removal treatment is generally considered to be effective after 6 treatments, over a 6 month period. Results vary for each individual according to their body area, hair density, hair growth, cycle and colour. Dark hair on fair skin is likely to respond best to the Rio Scanning Laser but all hair and skin types will need several treatments to show the full results.
Are there any side effects to this treatment?
Make sure you avoid excessive laser hair removal treatment on the same region repeatedly as this may cause swelling. If you experience any signs of redness, you should stop using the treatment and wait for your skin to return to normal.
