Younger generations more likely to contract STIs

A number of recent reports appear to show that young people are still more likely to contract a sexual transmitted disease in the UK. An NHS run service in Scotland claims people under 25 make up just 13% of the population. However, they accounted for as much as 72% of Chlamydia cases, 59% of genital warts and 61% of people diagnosed with gonorrhoea. The report does also highlight that the number of teenage pregnancies and abortions has remained consistent during the same period.

The author behind Scotland’s Sexual Health Information report claims there is a link between the increase in the percentage of people who are diagnosed with STDs and advancement in terms of the facilities available to experts, thus meaning more people were tested.

However, other experts believe there is a direct connection between poverty and the level of recorded STIs.

Shirley Fraser, the health improvement manager at NHS Scotland commented:"While we are seeing a rise in STIs, especially in young people under 19, much of this is due to our continued efforts to improve access to services as promoted by our sexual health strategy, Respect and Responsibility”. –BBC, 09.

She does however highlight a need for better education for young people, and the fact there is still little room for complacency when it comes to promoting positive sexual health education, including the use of condoms and contraception.

Although you are advised to seek medical help and an accurate diagnosis for any suspected infection. There are a number of natural treatments such as Dermisil Warts, proven for its effectiveness in treating genital warts. Always see your doctor first
