Stiff action taken against female worker accused of selling Viagra

By James Congdon

A female worker, who was accused of selling Viagra from the canteen at work, has been awarded with compensation that is thought to exceed 46,000 Euros. The woman had sought legal advice from an employment appeals tribunal who deemed that she had been unfairly dismissed from her post.

Malgorzata Grytner of Kildare, claims that the false accusations had caused a great deal of upset. She also claims that she had in fact been showing her colleagues a number of tablets that she had been prescribed for the treatment of depression around the time that the accusations were made.

She had been under the employment of Green Isle Foods Ltd up until her dismissal in March 2008. Her line manager had given a statement to the tribunal that claimed that she had been offering the drug on company property.

Grytner is reported to have offered the pill to a fellow employee, telling him “look what I bought in Amsterdam”- offering them up for 30 Euros. It was decided on March 21 2008, on the basis of the eye witness account, that she would be dismissed with immediate effect for the sale of drugs on work premises.

Denying the claims, Grytner said she had merely joked around with the witness a few weeks before the incident, but had not produced any pills on the day in question. She was also rewarded up to 900 Euros in accordance with the Minimum Notice and Terms of Employment Acts.

The story comes just weeks after a government report claimed that bootleg Viagra accounted for a substantial proportion of sales, as well as highlighting the real dangers of illegitimate versions of the erectile enhancer.
