The AIDS Health Foundation (AHF) has filed a complaint with California's Division of Occupational Safety and Health, calling for the mandatory use of condoms in Adult films. The AFH sent around 100 DVDs produced by ‘porn king’ Larry Flint. According to the foundation’s spokesman Ged Kenslea, only 1 of the scenes in the catalogue of movies shows a performer wearing a condom. Adult film stars are 10 times more likely to suffer from a sexually transmitted infection according to figures from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. These STIs range from genital herpes to HIV AIDS. The complaint by the AHF states that Flynn’s movies “clearly demonstrate workplace activities highly likely to spread blood-borne pathogens in the workplace”. “We see it as our duty to pursue action on the issue of safety in the workplace - in these instances, unprotected sex acts taking place in albeit non-traditional workplaces” said AHF’s president Michael Weinstein. There have been a number of high profile deaths in the adult entertainment industry from AIDS. In 2004, the industry came under much scrutiny after a number of performers were found to have contracted the virus. “We won’t budge” However, Larry Flint’s production manager Michael Klein maintains that they will not change their policies. “We won't budge when it comes to condomless productions” said Mr Klein in a statement. “That's what the consumer wants, and we deliver it”. Many sexual health experts also believe that pornography that has images of condomless sex could influence viewers to also practice unsafe sex. The number of STIs that are diagnosed per year in England has increased a vast amount, recent statistics have revealed. It is important for us all to practise safe sex in order to prevent against these serious infections. If you would like to discuss any issues about contraception and sexual intercourse you are advised to contact a medical expert. |
