Over 500 million people are affected by malaria each year which cause 1.5 to 2.7 million deaths each year.
Malaria is a public health problem in more than 90 countries, which are inhabited by 40% of the world population. The main areas of concern are the Sub-Saharan countries in Africa.
In South Africa high risk areas of malaria are :
- Northern Province
- Mpumalanga
- KwaZulu Natal
With the type of climate found in the larger parts of South Africa, insects and mosquitoes are always prevalant, even though not all are carriers of malaria. |
