What is a Syphilis Body Test?

What is Syphilis?

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease which is caused by the bacteria Treponema pallidum. It is usually passed from person to person through direct contact with a syphilis sore, usually during vaginal, anal or oral sex. It can also be passed from a mother to her child, either while the baby is in the uterus or during birth.

If syphilis is caught early enough it is easily treated with antibiotics. However, if left untreated, it can cause a rash, open sores, fever, sore throat, weight loss, damage to the nervous system, miscarriage or stillbirth, dementia, strokes, blindness, deafness, heart disease and paralysis.

When do I use the Syphilis Test Kit?

You can use the syphilis testing kit for home testing for syphilis if you think you may have exposed yourself to STI’s by having unprotected vaginal, anal, or oral sex. Or if you have experienced any symptoms that are associated with syphilis, such as a sore in either your mouth or genital area, sickness, headache, loss of appetite, or have a rash.

In the later stages, syphilis symptoms can progress to fever, skin ulcers, aching bones, liver disease or anaemia. If you have any of these syphilis symptoms you may wish to use the syphilis testing kit to find out if you do have the infection, so that you can seek suitable treatment.

How does the Syphilis Body Test kit work?

The syphilis testing kit works by detecting the presence or absence of the antibodies against syphilis in your blood. When you drop your blood onto the testing stick a chemical reaction will cause a line to appear in the test window, which will clearly show you your result.

How do I use this kit?

Start the testing for syphilis home procedure by cleaning the area of skin you intend to draw your blood sample from with disinfectant. Then place the needle against your skin and press firmly, until you hear a click. Remove the needle from your skin and fill the dropper with your blood. Use the dropper to place 4 drops of blood onto the test stick. If the test is working properly a chemical reaction will cause a line to appear next to the 'c' in the test window.

Wait for 15 minutes to interpret your results from this home test kit. if after this time only a line has appeared next to the ‘c’ you have tested negative for syphilis. However, if a line has also appeared next to the ‘t’, then you have tested positive.
